...THE LATEST WEATHER RADIO TECHNOLOGY...

WEATHER RADIOS WITH SPECIFIC AREA MESSAGE (SAME) DECODING TECHNOLOGY ALLOW USERS TO LISTEN FOR
ALERTS THAT ONLY AFFECT THEIR COUNTY (OR COUNTIES OF THEIR CHOICE). THIS FEATURE ALLOWS THE
LISTENER TO "FILTER OUT" ALERTS FOR AREAS THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN.

HOW IT WORKS...

WHEN A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE BROADCASTS AN URGENT MESSAGE (WARNING, WATCH, OR NON-WEATHER
EMERGENCY) IT ALSO CREATES AND BROADCASTS A DIGITAL SAME CODE (THAT MAY BE HEARD AS A VERY BRIEF
STATIC BURST). THIS SAME CODE ALERT CONTAINS THE TYPE OF MESSAGE, COUNTY(S) AFFECTED, AND
EXPIRATION TIME OF THE MESSAGE.

AN APPROPRIATELY PROGRAMMED WEATHER RADIO SAME RECEIVER WILL THEN TURN ON FOR THAT ALERT, WITH THE
LISTENER HEARING THE WARNING ALARM TONE AS AN ATTENTION SIGNAL, FOLLOWED BY THE BROADCAST MESSAGE.

AT THE END OF THE BROADCAST MESSAGE, LISTENERS WILL HEAR A BRIEF DIGITAL END-OF-MESSAGE STATIC
BURST FOLLOWED BY A RESUMPTION OF THE WEATHER RADIO BROADCAST CYCLE.

YOUR COUNTY CODE...

TO PROGRAM WEATHER RADIO SAME RECEIVERS WITH THE PROPER COUNTY(S) OF CHOICE, A USER WILL NEED TO
KNOW THE 6-DIGIT SAME CODE NUMBER(S) FOR THAT COUNTY(S).

THE CODES CAN BE FOUND ON THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MILWAUKEE/SULLIVAN WEB SITE AT

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/CntyCov/nwrWI.htm

ANOTHER METHOD FOR GETTING A COUNTY CODE NUMBER IS AVAILABLE
THROUGH THE WEATHER SERVICE'S TOLL FREE COUNTY CODE PHONE NUMBER. THIS TOLL FREE NUMBER IS
1-888-NWR-SAME (1-888-697-7263).

SPECIFIC PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECEIVERS CAN BE FOUND IN THE
INSTRUCTION BOOK THAT COMES WITH THE WEATHER RADIO.
