Famous Winter Storms in Minnesota
March 14-16, 1870 First use of the term "blizzard" as it pertained to weather - appeared in an Esterville, Iowa newspaper
January 7-10, 1873 Over 70 deaths in Minnesota
January 12-13, 1888 Over 200 deaths.
Armistice Day, 1940 144 total fatalities, including 49 in Minnesota.  Stranded duck hunters. 
Ides of March, 1941 75 to 85 mph wind gusts, but not much snow.  32 fatalities in Minnesota
January 10-12, 1975 "Storm of the Century"  31 total fatalities, 16 in Minnesota.
February 4-5, 1984 Sudden blizzard, but not much snow.  Sustained winds of 50 mph with gusts to 80 mph.  22 total fatalities, 16 in Minnesota.
Ocober 31 - November 2, 1991 Record Snowfall of 28.4 inches.  36.9 inches in Duluth.  No fatalities.
