The National Weather Service (NWS) is an agency under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is a part of the Department of Commerce. Our office complex is located in the Chanhassen Business Center in the southwest Twin Cities suburb of Chanhassen, about 25 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis. We moved to our present location in 1995. Before this time our office was located on the grounds of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport at the historic passenger terminal just south of Highway 62.
Our current office is one of the largest National Weather Service buildings in the country. We share this facility with the North Central River Forecast Center and the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center. Click on the links in blue above to visit their websites. |

| The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chanhassen has severe weather warning responsibility for 51 counties covering much of southern and central Minnesota and a portion of west central Wisconsin. Click on the map to see a larger picture of our area of responsibility.
Our official mission is to provide weather and flood warnings, public forecasts, and advisories for our area of responsibility, primarily for the protection of life and property.
