ZCZC MSPHMDMSR ALL TTAA00 KMSR DDHHMM HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL FORECAST DISCUSSION NWS NORTH CENTRAL RIVER FORECAST CENTER TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN 1210 PM CDT THU OCT 29 2009 ...Precipitation... Rain fell across the western half of the NCRFC region during the past 24 hours. Thunderstorms which developed across Kansas spread into Missouri and Iowa overnight and dropped the heaviest rain of an inch to inch and a half in central Iowa. Western Missouri received a quarter to three quarters of an inch while the remainder of the rain was generally less than a third of an inch. Precipitation is forecast across all the region through Friday morning. Amounts are expected to reach a quarter inch or more. Heavier amounts...between an inch and two inches is forecast in Missouri and Illinois. An inch or more should fall from central Iowa...across western Minnesota and into the eastern Dakotas. Across the west....in the Dakotas... it will fall as rain and become mixed with or turn to snow by morning Friday. The area of low pressure that is bringing the precipitation to the NCRFC region will move northeast into the weekend. It will drag the precipitation eastward and drop the heaviest rain across the southern half of Illinois and into Indiana and southern lower Michigan Friday into Saturday morning. Amounts could reach up to 2 inches. Saturday into Sunday will be dry across most of the region. Some lingering precipitation could accumulate across the north. Water equivalents should only total a tenth or less...with the heaviest amounts in the upper peninsula of Michigan. ...Hydrologic Conditions... The precipitation forecast described above is expected to fall over some watersheds with wet soils. We are modeling close to staurated soils over much of Illinois...eastern Missouri...eastern Iowa and the southern Red River Basin. Minor to moderate flooding is expected in the Wapsipinicon River...Skunk River...Iowa River...Illinois River...Kaskaskia River...Big Muddy River and Red River Basins.
