Snowmelt Begins - At Least Over Portions of the Area

January Thaw Begins - (At Least for Some Areas)

The well advertised January thaw has begun - at least over portions of south central South Dakota.  High temperatures in that area climbed to near 40F during the afternoon which allowed for at least some snowmelt.  Areas further north and east, were not so lucky as temperatures stayed in single digits to mid-teens.  All is not lost however, as the mild conditions are expected to continue through the early to middle part of next week.

Below are a series of images taken along Interstate 90 near Reliance South Dakota (just west of Chamberlain). Time of the images (left to right, top to bottom) are approximately 1040am CST, 1240pm CST, 240pm CST, and 340pm CST.
