SUBJECT: CHANGES IN FLOOD CATEGORIES FOR STREAM GAGE NEAR
STRATFORD ON THE JAMES RIVER /SFDS2/

EFFECTIVE AT 1200 COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 30,
2009...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL CHANGE THE FLOOD CATEGORY
STAGES FOR THE STREAM GAGE NEAR STRATFORD ON THE JAMES RIVER.
BECAUSE OF THIS CHANGE...STARTING ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 30,
2009...FLOOD WARNINGS...FLOOD STATEMENTS AND FLOOD ADVISORIES WILL
REFERENCE THE NEW CATEGORY LEVELS. THIS CHANGE IS PART OF A RECENT
RE-EVALUATION OF THE FLOOD PLAIN.

THE NEW FLOOD CATEGORIES WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

1. FLOOD STAGE IS 14.0 FEET ABOVE GAGE ZERO.  THIS IS NO CHANGE FROM
THE PREVIOUS FLOOD STAGE.
2. NEW MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 17.0 FEET ABOVE GAGE ZERO. THE
PREVIOUS MODERATE FLOOD STAGE WAS 16.0 FEET ABOVE GAGE ZERO.
3. NEW MAJOR FLOOD STAGE IS 18.5 FEET ABOVE GAGE ZERO. THE PREVIOUS
MAJOR FLOOD STAGE WAS 17.0 FEET ABOVE GAGE ZERO.
