High June Rainfall Totals

JUNE RAINFALL TOTALS

June is typically one of our wettest months, however several locations managed to stand out , measuring well above normal precipitation for the month. While the start of June had the region experiencing dry conditions with light accumulations due to hit and miss showers and thunderstorms, conditions changed dramatically between June 19th and 22nd as slow moving low pressure drifted across South Dakota. This system produced a majority of precipitation that fell in the month, and was structurally more reminiscent of storms that occur in February or March. An active pattern remained across the region until the very end of June, leading to an exacerbation of the flooding issues that have been prevalent across the region this spring.
