Summary of Storm Total Snowfall Reports from December 3-4

Event Synopsis:

A seasonably strong low pressure system tracked across the northern plains on Monday night through Wednesday evening.  Several periods of light to moderate snowfall developed over much of South Dakota and west central Minnesota.  Widespread snowfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches fell across much of central, north-central, and northeastern South Dakota, and west-central Minnesota.

As this system tracked northeastward into the Great Lakes region, strong north to northwest winds developed in the wake of the low and gusted as high as 45-50 mph resulting in areas of blowing and drifting snow.  Bitterly cold arctic air moved into the region on Wednesday night.

Below is a preliminary map of the storm total snowfall – along with a tabular listing of snowfall reports.
