February Snow Cover, Today and in the Past

The persistent cold felt across northern Michigan this winter is definitely further reaching than just the Great Lakes. This year much of the country, especially the northern half, has seen its own fair share of snow and cold. A few places as far south as Oklahoma and northern Texas are currently showing at least a trace of snow on the ground today. However, snow cover as far south as northern Texas this time of year is not necessarily uncommon, it happened as recently as early February 2010.

In contrast, snow cover across the country one year ago, was much less and not nearly as far south as this year. What a difference a year makes.
