Cold Weather Continues During February

Monthly Highlights:

(1) The persistent very cold pattern continued during the month of February.  Arctic outbreaks were common, and when combined with near record setting Great Lakes ice cover, brought some of the coldest air during the winter season.  The coldest temperatures occurred during the very end of the month, when high temperatures remained in the single digits (some areas failed to reach zero during the daylight hours on the 27th) and overnight lows fell well below zero.  This exceptionally cold weather resulted in one of the coldest February's on record, with Gaylord setting a new monthly record.

(2) Extensive Great Lakes ice cover resulted in less significant lake effect snow showers, and the most active storm track remained to our south.  As a result, both precipitation and snowfall averaged near, to slightly below, normal across the area.
