Record Warmth at Alpena on Saturday, November 7th
Saturday, November 7th, was uncharacteristically warm and sunny for northern Michigan, but few where complaining. The wonderful weather allowed folks to get outside one last time to rake leaves and complete outdoor preparations for winter.
High temperatures were 10 to 20 degrees above what is normal for early November. In fact, the temperature at Alpena climbed to 65 degrees at 3:44 this afternoon. This broke the previous record of 64 degrees, originally set in 1916.

Believe it or not, the last time temperatures were this warm, on November 7th, was last year. Gaylord tied its record high temperature with 69 degrees. This occurred among a stretch of very warm days from the 5th to the 8th. Then, the weather turned on a dime. Temperatures plummeted into the 30s and several inches of snow fell over the eastern U.P. and the higher terrain of northern Lower, on the 9th and 10th.
