Spring 2010 Recap

Record Shattering Spring

      A spring season about as atypical as one can experience across the North Woods, with, on average, the warmest, least snowiest, and one of the driest springs ever recorded (since reliable weather data has been kept).  These same adjectives could be applied to this past winter (and most would say nearly all of last year!), keeping the stretch of unprecedented benign weather nearly unblemished.  Otherwise, the numbers below speak for themselves, with records, or near records, set across the board.  Please see January-May 2010 One of the Driest Starts-to-the-Year on Record for a great explanation for such a dry, snowless spring.

* Traverse City - Normal and observed temperature data is compiled from the ASOS site at Cherry Capital Airport.  Snowfall and precipitation amounts are recorded at the cooperative observer at Traverse City Munson Hospital, while snowfall and precipitation normals are compiled from the ASOS site at Cherry Capital Airport.

** Gaylord - All normal data is compiled from the cooperative observer site in the vicinity of the Gaylord Regional Airport ASOS site.  Observed precipitation and snowfall amounts are recorded from the cooperative observer, while temperature data is taken from the ASOS site.
