March Cold Weather

As most people may recognize by now, it has been a cool month across northern Michigan. Alpena, Gaylord and Houghton Lake have all recorded average monthly temperatures of anywhere between 2 to 4 degrees below normal so far. Much of this cold weather can be attributed to the snow cover from the recent snow storm during March 23rd, followed by the clear, calm nights associated with a high pressure system over central Canada. How do these average temperatures so far this month compare to previous years? Let’s consider the top ten coldest March's for Gaylord, Houghton Lake and Alpena.
