Heavy Rain on May 3rd, 2012

Multiple episodes of heavy rain resulted in some impressive rainfall totals from Manistee eastward to Cadillac, Lake City, and Houghton Lake. The heaviest totals fell in a swath over Manistee and Wexford counties. Below are the amounts we received from Co-Operative and CoCoRaHS observers, as well as some automated weather stations. These are totals that usually fall over the course of an entire month, falling in just one day. Houghton Lake is bold because it is an official climate site and that amount broke the previous record, for the date. The old record was 1.22" in 1938. In fact, the 30-year normal precipitation, for the entire month of May, is 2.82" at Houghton Lake.
