     Although temperatures averaged a degree or two above normal for August, the bigger story was lack of sufficient rains during the month.  For most areas, monthly rainfall totals averaged an inch or more below normal, with only a handful of days reporting measurable precipitation.  As a result, latest updated drought information has placed all of Northern Lower Michigan as abnormally dry, with areas down near Saginaw Bay experiencing moderate drought conditions (latest drought information link provided below).
