Northern Michigan Halloween Climatology

Northern Michigan Halloween Climatology

With Halloween quickly approaching as we round out the month of October, it is always interesting to take a look back at some of the extremes that have occurred on October 31st over the last 100+ years across northern Michigan. Below is a look at the warmest, coldest, wettest, and snowiest Halloweens recorded for various cities throughout the region. As can be seen, there is a huge range in temperatures from warmest to coldest, indicative of just how changeable this time of the year can be as we slide ever closer toward winter.

Last Halloween featured mild but very wet conditions, with periods of rain through trick-or-treat time. In fact, Sault Ste. Marie saw their rainiest Halloween in recorded history.

This year will feature a substantial change in the weather, with very cold temperatures, gusty winds up to 40 mph, and rain changing over to snow. Scary indeed!
