Summary of Sandy's Impacts on Northern Michigan

Taken by NOAA's GOES East on October 30, 2012.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the southern coast of New Jersey on the evening of October 29th, bringing widespread coastal flooding and beach erosion, heavy rain, incredible winds (gusting to 80+ mph at times near New York) and snow measured in feet over the higher terrain of West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee. A national storm summary of Sandy can be found here, courtesy of the National Weather Service Hydrological Prediction Center. This expansive storm, which had a cloud deck that spanned nearly 1000 miles in diameter, had its impacts felt as far away as Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, with winds gusting upwards of 60 mph.  This caused some coastal flooding along the southern Lake Michigan shoreline, as seen in the NWS Chicago’s write-up of the storm which can be found here.
