March 2013...More like Winter than Spring

 Monthly Highlights:

(1) A persistent cold pattern resulted in temperatures averaging slightly below normal for the month.  Perusal of individual daily temperature readings indicates a propensity for overnight lows to average near to slightly above normal that prevented March from being much more below normal.  Average March temperatures this year where 12 to 18 degrees colder than those observed during the historic warm March of 2012!

(2) Much like February, the majority of precipitation was confined to the traditional lake snow belts.  Precipitation averaged slightly above normal for these areas, while areas further away from the lake zones received slightly below normal monthly precipitation.

(3) A lack of significant storm systems once again resulted in snowfall averaging below normal away from the traditional snow belt regions.  Snow totals averaged just above normal in the snow belts, courtesy of frequent cold air outbreaks and resultant lake effect snow showers.
