2013-14 Winter Rankings

Curious how this winter's temperature and snowfall frequency ranks against the record books?  Taking a look at the average temperature for the meteorological winter so far (Dec 1 - Feb 12), this winter is 8th coldest in La Crosse, WI and 9th coldest in Rochester, MN.  This is the coldest winter since the winter of 1981-82 in both La Crosse and Rochester.  

From December 1st through February 12th, the temperature has fallen below zero 37 times in La Crosse (7th most through this date) and 41 times in Rochester (6th most through this date).  Even more impressive is that the temperature has fallen to -10 or colder on 22 days at La Crosse.  This is the 6th most through February 12th and 12th greatest for a winter.

In addition, the area has seen frequent snows.   Ranking the number of days of measurable snowfall (0.1" or more), this winter so far ranks 4th in La Crosse.
