West Salem, WI Fogbow of September 29, 2010

On the morning of September 29, 2010, a fogbow was seen in West Salem, Wisconsin.  Fogbows form in the same way as rainbows.  However, they are usually white with maybe a red outer edge and bluish interior.  This is why they are sometimes called "white rainbows".  A fogbow seen in clouds, typically from an aircraft looking downwards, is called a "cloudbow".  Mariners sometimes call fogbows "sea-dogs".
