Heavy thunderstorms dumped copious amounts of rain across parts of northeast Iowa and extreme southwest Wisconsin overnight. Over 13 inches of rain has been reported from parts of far northwest Illinois. Over 10 inches of rain has been reported from Sinsinawa, WI near the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Widespread amounts of 3 to 4 inches fell from Fayette, IA across Clayton County and into far southern Grant County, Wisconsin. An additional half inch of rain also fell late this morning into the afternoon.
Several flood warnings remain in effect this afternoon for the area, including parts of eastern Iowa and neighboring northwest Illinois. River rises have also been seen in the region.
If you have travel plans in this area, stay on high ground and never cross flooded roads. Heed all warnings and road closures. Highways 52, 20, and 151 in Dubuque County, Iowa all had closures posted today due to flooding or high water. Parts of Highways 35 and 11 in far southwest Wisconsin also have closures to keep people from driving into flood waters in far northwest Illinois.
