Temperatures...

During meteorological summer...La Crosse Municipal Airport had an average temperature of 73.0 degrees.  This was 1.5 degrees warmer than the 1981-2010 normal of 71.5 degrees.  This ties 1874 for the 20th warmest summer.  The warmest summer occurred back in 1995 when the average temperature was 75.7 degrees.  The table below lists the top 20 warmest meteorological summers in La Crosse WI...

Other temperature tidbits this summer...

The average maximum temperature was 83.3 degrees.  This was 1.4 degrees warmer than the 1981-2010 average of 81.9 degrees.

The average minimum temperature was 62.7 degrees.  This was 1.7 degrees warmer than the 1981-2010 average of 61.0 degrees.

The hottest temperature during the summer was 100 degrees on June 7th.  This was the first time that the temperature has been a 100 degrees or higher since July 31 2006.  Since 1872, La Crosse has only reached or exceeded 100 degrees on 67 days.

The coldest minimum temperature this summer was 46 degrees on June 12th.  Normally, the coldest minimum temperature during a summer is 44 degrees.

On July 18th, the low temperature was 80 degrees.  This made it only the sixth time that the low temperature was 80 degrees or warmer.  Prior to this year, the last time was July 4, 1999.  The warmest low temperature ever recorded in La Crosse was 81 degrees on July 21, 1901 and July 13, 1995.

The temperature exceeded 90 degrees on sixteen days.  This was the most in a summer since 2006 (15 days).  The greatest number of 90 degree days in a meteorological summer is 41 days in 1988.

Precipitation...

During the meteorological summer, La Crosse Municipal Airport received 15.03 inches of precipitation.  This was 2.14 inches wetter than the 1981-2010 normal of 12.89 inches. 

The wettest day occurred on June 18th when 4.50 inches of precipitation fell. 

From June 14th through June 24th (11 days), 8.15 inches of rain fell.  This accounted for over half (54.2 percent) of the rain this summer.  Since this time period, only 6.88 inches of rain fell.  Normally, 9.37 inches of rain falls after June 20th.  This in combination with above normal temperatures resulted in the area being declared abnormally dry by the U.S. Drought Monitor by mid August.

Temperatures...

During meteorological summer...Rochester International Airport had an average temperature of 70.8 degrees.  This was 1.7 degrees warmer than the 1981-2010 normal of 69.4 degrees.  This was the tenth warmest summer.  The warmest summer occurred back in 1949 when the average temperature was 73.0 degrees.  The table below lists the top ten warmest meteorological summers in Rochester MN...

Other temperature tidbits this summer...

The average maximum temperature was 80.5 degrees.  This was one degree warmer than the 1981-2010 average of 79.5 degrees.

The average minimum temperature was 61.0 degrees.  This was 1.7 degrees warmer than the 1981-2010 average of 59.3 degrees.

The hottest temperature during the summer was 101 degrees on June 7th.  This was the first time that the temperature has been a 100 degrees or higher since July 31 1988.  Since 1886, Rochester has only reached or exceeded 100 degrees on 34 days.

The coldest minimum temperature this summer was 47 degrees on June 12th.  Normally, the coldest minimum temperature during a summer is 40 degrees.

The temperature met or exceeded 90 degrees on ten days, which is about average in Rochester.  This was the most in a summer since 2001 though.  The greatest number of 90 degree days in a meteorological summer is 30 days in 1916.

On July 18th, the heat index climbed to 118 degrees (93 degree temperature and 83 degree dew point).  This was the highest heat index ever recorded at Rochester.  The previous record was 116 degrees on July 11 1980 (96 degree temperature and 80 degree dew point).

Precipitation...

During the meteorological summer, Rochester International Airport received 10.34 inches of precipitation.  This was 3.41 inches drier than the 1981-2010 normal of 13.75 inches.  This was the driest summer since 2003 when only 8.47 inches of precipitation fell.  The combination of below normal precipitation and above normal temperatures resulted in the area being declared abnormally dry by the U.S. Drought Monitor by mid August.

The wettest day was July 15th when 2.73 inches of precipitation fell.
