Flood Stage Change for Mississippi River at Lansing Iowa

The Flood Stage for the Mississippi River at Lansing, Iowa has recently changed.

Flooding events in the past few years have led local emergency management and law enforcement officials to re-evaluate the local flood plain in the area around Lansing, and they have requested a lower flood stage elevation.  The new flood stage referenced in all hydrologic statements and warnings, including Flood Warnings and Flood Statements, will be as follows:

  • New Flood Stage = 17 feet     (old FS was 18 ft)

If you have any questions about this change, please contact Service Hydrologist Mike Welvaert.
