Ranking the 2012 meteorological summer compared to meteorological summer records

This meteorological summer (June-July-August) will be remembered for record warm stretches, especially those that occurred during the month of July.  For the months of June and July, the temperatures in La Crosse, WI were equivalent to those you would experience living in Atlanta, Georgia!   In July alone, the temperatures in La Crosse, WI were more like those typically experienced in Miami, Florida.

The change in the overall weather pattern the last three weeks has led to cooler and below normal temperatures in August. This has caused the average temperatures to drop; however, the average temperature so far in the summer months remains in the top five at Rochester. To round out the last few days of August, another stretch of hot conditions occurred with highs in the 90s.
