Cool and Dry Period Continues

Since mid to late July, the Upper Midwest has experienced a noticeable cool and dry weather pattern, thanks to a persistent wind flow from the northwest keeping the majority of heat and humidity well to the south. The images below show the observed daily average temperatures (and normal values) from July 20 to August 11. Only 3 days have been above normal in the 23 day period! Rainfall in this period has totaled 1.88" in Rochester and 2.00" in La Crosse, which is significantly lower than the normal of around 3.4".
