Blowing and Drifting Snow, Along With Mixed Precipitation, Through Tonight

Ahead of the frigid air heading toward the Upper Mississippi River Valley region for this weekend, there are 2 hazards of significance:

Blowing and Drifting Snow...

  • When: Through tonight
  • Where: Most extensive from southeast Minnesota into northeast Iowa and far southwest WI.  Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for this area
  • Cause: Strong southerly winds which could gust 30 to 45 mph
  • Impacts: Travel on west to east roads, such as Interstate 90 or U.S. Highway 19, will be far more difficult because of the wind, along with slick spots

Mixed Precipitation...

  • When: Through tonight, mainly after 9 pm
  • Where: North of Interstate 90.  Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for this area
  • Impacts: Untreated roads will become slippery

In general, allow extra time if traveling across the Upper Mississippi River Valley region.
