Large Differences in Rainfall Across Bismarck

Multiple times this summer the northern portions of Bismarck have received substatially more rainfall than the airport located on the southern side of the city. From May through August 2nd, the observed located 5 miles northwest of downtown Bismarck has recorded 14.32 inches of rainfall, where as the Bismarck Airport has received 9.16 inches of rainfall, a difference of 5.16 inches. For July 31 through August 2. The observer 5 miles northwest of downtown Bismarck received 3.55 inches of rain, compared to only 0.62 inches at the airport. This shows how small scale phenomena such as thunderstorms can result in big differences in rainfall across the area the size of Bismarck.
