Radar Images
|
| Shown below are the radar images from the Minot Air Force Base WSR-88D radar located near Deering, North Dakota. Within the reflectivity images, a distinct "Hook Echo" can be seen on radar protruding out of the southern portion of the storm near Bowbells. This signature is an indication of rain or hail being wrapped into the parent low level circulation of a possible tornado. The storm relative motion images show how precipition is moving within the thunderstorm. Shades of green and blue indicate motion towards the radar, and shades of red indicate motion away from the radar. Notice the tight couplet of bright greens, and blues next net bright red near Bowbells. This indicates fast moving air towards the radar and away from the radar over a very short distance, signifying rapid rotation. The red boxes in the images are the outlines of the Tornado Warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Bismarck, and the yellow boxes are the outlines of the Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. |
