...TORNADO CAUSES SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE IN LAMOURE COUNTY SUNDAY JULY
17 2011...

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT TEAM HAS PRELIMINARILY
DETERMINED THAT AN EF3 TORNADO STRUCK LAMOURE COUNTY SUNDAY LATE
AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING.

THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 63RD ST SE AND
86TH AVE SE. IT MOVED SOUTHEAST ACROSS RUSSELL...WANO...HENRIETTA
AND BADGER TOWNSHIPS BEFORE LIFTING NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 76TH ST
SE AND 93RD AVE SE.

ALONG THAT PATH NO FEWER THAN FIVE FARMSTEADS WERE DAMAGED.  IN ONE
CASE THE FARM HOME WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED.  THE DAMAGE AT THE FARM
HOUSE THAT WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WAS CONSISTENT WITH EF3 DAMAGE
ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE.  FROM THIS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WIND
SPEEDS IN THIS TORNADO WERE FROM 136 TO 165 MPH.

VERY LARGE HAIL UP TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS FELL ALL ALONG AND
OUTSIDE OF THE TORNADOS PATH.  NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE THANKS THE
RESIDENTS OF LAMOURE COUNTY...THE LAMOURE COUNTY EMERGENCY
MANAGER...THE LAMOURE COUNTY SHERIFF AND THE NORTH DAKOTA HIGHWAY
PATROL FOR ASSISTING WITH GATHERING DETAILS FOR THIS DAMAGE
ASSESSMENT.
