New Lake Wind and Wave Forecasts

New Lake Wind and Wave Forecasts for
 Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe

The National Weather Service in Bismarck has begun issuing lake wind and wave forecasts for the two largest lakes in our forecast area, Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe. Since Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe have a large areal extent, Lake Sakakawea was divided into west, central, and east, and Lake Oahe into north and south. These forecasts will be available in our text product, the Recreation Area Forecast, and in graphical form. More information about the background and development of these forecasts can be found on the Lake Wind and Wave Forecasts page.

These are experimental forecasts as there is no bouy data available on either lake to verify forecast wave heights. We welcome your comments and reports about these experimental wave forecasts. Please send all comments and reports to w-bis.webmaster@noaa.gov.
