Higher flows on Cherry Creek today

...CHERRY CREEK WATER LEVELS WILL RUN HIGH DOWNSTREAM OF CHERRY CREEK RESERVOIR TODAY...

THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS IS CONDUCTING ITS ANNUAL SEDIMENT FLUSHING EXERCISE AT CHERRY CREEK RESERVOIR. THE HIGHER FLOWS BEGAN AT 9 AM. THE PLANNED RELEASES FROM CHERRY CREEK RESERVOIR WILL RANGE FROM 300 TO 1300 CUBIC FEET PER SECOND (CFS).  AS WATER LEVELS ON CHERRY CREEK BELOW THE DAM RISE...SECTIONS OF BIKE PATHS AND STREAM CROSSINGS ALONG CHERRY CREEK IN DENVER WILL LIKELY OVERTOP. THE FLUSHING EXERCISE WILL BE COMPLETED BY 11:30 AM. HOWEVER, HIGHER FLOWS WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO REACH THE DOWNTOWN CHANNEL, AND FLOWS FROM THE LAST GATE OPENED WILL NOT REACH THE DOWNTOWN CHANNEL UNTIL LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

THOSE PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES TODAY ALONG CHERRY CREEK BELOW CHERRY CREEK DAM ARE ADVISED TO USE CAUTION. DO NOT USE BIKE PATHS OR STREAM CROSSINGS THAT ARE COVERED WITH WATER. THE SAFEST THING TO
DO IS TO AVOID HIGH AND FAST MOVING WATER ALTOGETHER.
