Remember the flash flood season is upon us. The tragic Fort Collins flash flood happened 13 years ago on this date. 4 to 6 inches of rain fell on July 27th, 1997, which saturated the ground. The next day, on July 28th, 1997, thunderstorms dumped an additional 5 to over 10 inches of rain in less than 6 hours. 5 people were killed and 54 injured as severe flooding occurred in the Spring Creek drainage in Fort Collins, with extensive flooding citywide.
