July 2012 - Warmest on Record

........ JULY 2012...HOTTEST JULY ON RECORD............

JULY 2012 WAS THE HOTTEST JULY IN DENVER SINCE WEATHER RECORDS BEGAN
BACK IN 1872. THE MONTH GOT OFF TO A HOT START WITH MUCH ABOVE
NORMAL TEMPERATURES DURING THE FIRST 6 DAYS OF THE MONTH. A RECORD
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES WAS SET ON THE 2ND. COOLER AND WETTER WEATHER
MOVED INTO THE FRONT RANGE OF COLORADO ON THE 7TH AS THE UPPER RIDGE
OF HIGH PRESSURE MIGRATED FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS STATES INTO THE
MIDWESTERN STATES...AND A WEAK COLD FRONT MOVED INTO NORTHEASTERN
COLORADO. THIS PATTERN ALSO ALLOWED THE FLOW OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE
TO MOVE INTO COLORADO FROM THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST. THIS RESULTED IN
A STRETCH OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES FROM THE 7TH THROUGH THE
10TH. UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE THEN REESTABLISHED OVER THE REGION
BRINGING MUCH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES TO DENVER FROM THE 11TH
THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH. NO ADDITIONAL RECORDS WERE SET DURING
THIS PERIOD...HOWEVER...THERE WERE 5 DAYS IN WHICH THE MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE REACHED OR EXCEEDED ONE HUNDRED DEGREES.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 78.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS 4.7
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS MAKES JULY OF 2012 THE HOTTEST JULY SINCE
RECORDS BEGAN IN 1872. THERE WERE 27 DAYS IN WHICH THE MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE EXCEEDED 90 DEGREES...WHICH ESTABLISHES A NEW RECORD.

SEVEN DAYS IN WHICH THE TEMPERATURE REACHED THE CENTURY MARK. THIS
TIES 2005 FOR THE MOST 100 DEGREE DAYS FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. THE
