Storm Spotters Killed by Oklahoma Tornado

It is with great sorrow that the National Weather Service Office in Boulder learned of the deaths of two of our storm spotters (Tim Samaras and his son Paul) from a tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma Friday evening.  Tim and his family have been active spotters for our office over the past two decades.  Tim has been a researcher and engineer who recently developed and worked with a high speed camera to study lightning.  Tim has been one of the organizers of the National Storm Chaser Convention which is held in Denver each February.  Tim and his son will be missed, and our condolences go out to the Samaras family, their many friends, and the Colorado storm spotting community.
