USDA Forest Service at Elkhart Honored for Length of Service

The USDA Forest Service at the Cimarron National Grassland at Elkhart, Kansas was honored with a 25 year Length of Service Award on Tuesday, October 7th by the National Weather Service.  District Ranger Lance Brown and Shari Butler, Resource Clerk/Visitor Information Specialist, represented the USDA Forest Service.  In attendance for the presentation were Jesse Lee, Observing Program Leader, and Michael Scott, Cooperative Program Manager, both from the National Weather Service in Dodge City.  The USDA Forest Service at Elkhart provides cooperative weather observations, which include temperature, precipitation and snowfall, to the National Weather Service.   Cooperative weather observations from Elkhart have been ongoing since May 1st, 1918.  The USDA Forest Service took over the observation duties from Cathy Corpening in October of 1989.
