December 2014 Weather Summary for Dodge City

The average temperature for the month of December at Dodge City was 34.7 degrees which was 1.9 degrees above normal.  Temperatures were relatively mild for most of the month before a colder air mass settled into the area during the last week of the month.  The high temperatures on the 30th and 31st were only 14 and 15, respectively.  The average high temperature was 43.5 degrees and the average low was 25.9 degrees.  The only records set during the month were the mild low temperatures on the 12th which tied, and 13th and 14th.  These were records for the highest minimum temperature.  The lows were 45 on the 12th, 48 on the 13th and 40 on the 14th.  The highest temperature during the month was 63 degrees on the 5th and the lowest was 3 below on the 31st.  The average temperature for 2014 was 54.4 degrees which was 1 degree below normal.

The total precipitation for December was 1 inch which was 0.16 inches above normal.  The highest 24 hour total was 0.47 inches on the 4th and 5th.  The total precipitation for 2014 ended up at 23.18 inches which was 1.58 inches above normal.  The total snowfall for December was 3.8 inches which was 0.3 inches below normal.  The highest 24 hour amount was 2.3 inches on the 29th and 30th.  The total snowfall for the 2014-15 season through the end of December was 6 inches which was 0.3 inches below normal.

The average wind speed for the month was 12.1 mph.  The highest wind gust was 47 mph from the northwest which occurred on the 15th.
