With the latest storm to impact southwest Kansas, the accumulated precipitation for the month of October at the Dodge City airport established a record. Monthly rainfall totals for other stations in western Kansas will not be available until the first week of November. However, the map below is an estimation of how much has fallen already this month. Many areas have picked up well over six inches through the first 23 days of the month.
It is also interesting that at Dodge City the accumulated precipitation for the month of October for this decade is the second wettest on record! Only 2.99" is needed during the balance of this October and all of next October (2009) to tie the record.
