April 2009 Weather Summary for Dodge City

Precipitation was well above normal at the Dodge City Regional Airport for April 2009.  The total for the month was 3.60 inches and that was 1.35 inches above normal.  The greatest 24 hour amount was 1.44 inches on the 17th.  During the 3 day period from the 16th to the 18th the total was 2.14 inches.  The total precipitation for the year from January 1st to April 30th was 4.48 inches and that was 0.89 inches below normal.  The total snowfall for the month was 1.5 inches and that occurred during the first week of the month.  The greatest 24 hour amount was 1.1 inches on the 2nd.  The total snowfall for the 2008-2009 winter season was 17.3 inches, which was 4.3 inches below normal.

The average temperature for the month was 53.5 degrees, which was 0.4 degrees below normal.  The average high temperature was 67.1 degrees and the average low was 39.8 degrees.  The highest temperature was 88 degrees on the 24th.  The lowest was 19 on the 7th, which was a record low for that date.  This was the only record set during the month at Dodge City.

The average wind speed was 15.1 mph.  The highest wind gust was 62 mph from the northwest on the 22nd as a band of thunderstorms moved through the area.  The amount of sunshine for the month was 67 percent.
