May 2009 Weather Summary for Dodge City

Precipitation was well below normal for the Dodge City Regional Airport for May 2009.  The total precipitation for the month was 1.29 inches, which was 1.71 inches below normal.  The greatest 24 hour amount was 0.37 inches on the 8th.  The total precipitation so far for the year from January 1st to May 31st was 5.77 inches, which was 2.60 inches below normal.  No snow fell during the month.  The total snowfall for the 2008-2009 season ended with 17.3 inches and that was 4.3 inches below normal.

The average temperature for the month was 62.8 degrees, which was 1 degree below normal.  The average high temperature was 75.2 degrees and the average low was 50.4 degrees.  The highest temperature was 95 degrees on the 30th and the lowest was 39 on the 4th.  No records were set during the month.

The average wind speed was 11.9 mph.  The highest wind gust was 53 mph from the north on the 8th.  This wind was associated with thunderstorms that moved through the area during the early morning hours.  The amount of sunshine for the month was 66 percent.
