July 2009 Weather Summary for Dodge City

Rainfall was above normal for the second month in a row at the Dodge City Regional Airport.  The total for July 2009 was 4.29 inches, which was 1.12 inches above normal.  June and July had a total of 10.63 inches and was 4.31 inches above normal.  The highest 24 hour amount for July was 1.07 inches on the 25th and 26th with almost all of it on the 25th (1.06 inches).  The total precipitation from January 1st to July 31st has been 16.40 inches, which was 1.17 inches above normal.  At this time last year there was only 9.17 inches. 

The average temperature for the month was 78.0 degrees, which was 1.8 degrees below normal.  The average high temperature was 91.5 degrees and the average low was 64.4.  Dodge City had its first 100 degree day of the summer on the 9th with a reading of 101 degrees.  This began a streak of 6 straight 100 degree days.  The warmest was 104 degrees on the 14th.  There were no more 100 degree days at Dodge City for the rest of the month.  The lowest temperature was 57 degrees on the 1st, 18th and 30th.  The 57 on the 18th established a record low for that date.  That was the only record set for the month.

The average wind speed was 10.4 mph.  The highest wind gust was 45 mph from the north on the evening of the 22nd as thunderstorms moved through the area.  The amount of sunshine for the month was 77 percent.
