February 2010 Weather Summary for Dodge City

The average temperature for February 2010 at the Dodge City Regional Airport was 30.4 degrees, which was 5.6 degrees below normal.  This was the 31st coldest February on record.  The average high temperature was 39.5 degrees and the average low was 21.2.  The highest temperature was 57 degrees on the 27th and the lowest was 6 degrees on the 9th.  No records were set during the month.  

A total of 0.71 inches of precipitation fell during the month, which was 0.05 degrees above normal.  The highest 24 hour total was 0.31 inches on the 3rd and 4th.  The total precipitation since January 1st was 1.32 inches, which was 0.04 inches above normal.  The total snowfall for the month was 9.5 inches and this was 5.1 inches above normal.  The highest 24 hour total was 3.5 inches on the 7th and 8th.  Total snowfall for the 2009-2010 season as of February 28th was 19.2 inches, which was 3.7 inches above normal.  At this same last year only 3.2 inches of snow had fallen.

The average wind speed for the month was 11.2 mph.  The highest wind gust was 45 mph from the northwest on the 14th.

December 2009, January 2010 and February 2010 were all below normal for average temperatures at Dodge City.  The last time this happened was 1992-1993.  The 12 times that this has happened, the average temperatures for the following summer were below normal 8 times.  Records date back to 1874.
