A thunderstorm merger occurred near Ellis around 900 AM on 7 June, and high winds caused widespread damage, especially on the east side of town. The most significant damage extended from near I70 southward across the golf course to homes south of the golf course. Many large trees were uprooted or broken off near the ground. At least three garages were destroyed, and a semi was blown over on Interstate 70. Orientation of the debris suggested that the winds at the surface diverged from a point on the north side of Ellis, and little evidence of a tornado was present. The damage appears to have been the result of a wet microburst. Additional details and pictures will be posted in the near future.
