Cooperative Weather Observer Byron Smith Receives Length Of Service Award From NWS

Byron Smith, a cooperative weather observer of rural northwestern Morton County, was presented with a 25 year length of service award on Tuesday, February 22nd, by Jesse Lee, Observing Program Leader for the National Weather Service in Dodge City. Byron has recorded precipitation data since 1986. The site has been in the family since 1941. John Smith took over the station from the Soil Conservation Service in January of 1941. John was the observer until he passed away in 1974. His wife Olga took over the observations until 1986.
