John & Helen Lehman Receive 40 Year Length Of Service Award

John & Helen Lehman, cooperative weather observers of Coldwater KS, were presented with a 40 year length of service award on Thursday, May 26th, by Larry Ruthi, Meteorologist in Charge for the National Weather Service in Dodge City. In attendance for the presentation were Rick Sloan, Hydrologist, and Jesse Lee, Observing Program Leader, both from the National Weather Service. The Lehmans have recorded temperature, precipitation and snowfall data since 1971. John is the primary observer for the cooperative weather station and Helen is his backup. The Coldwater station has been in existence since 1888. Vernon Pepperd was the observer from 1943 until 1971. The Lehmans took over the station from Mr. Pepperd.
