June 2011 Weather Summary for Dodge City

June 2011 was another dry month for the Dodge City Regional Airport.  Only 0.32 inches of precipitation fell making this the fourth driest June on record.  This was 2.83 inches below normal.  The driest June was in 1952 when there was 0.12 inches of precipitation.  Since January 1st only 3.34 inches of precipitation has been recorded which was 8.18 inches below normal.  The first six months of 2011 was the 2nd driest on record!  The driest was 2.47 inches back in 1893.  Records date back to 1875 for the January through June period.    For June 2011 the highest 24 hour amount was 0.15 inches on the 15th and 16th.  The last month that Dodge City was above normal for precipitation was November 2010, and before that it was July 2010. 

June 2011 was one of the warmest on record with an average of 79.9 degrees, which was 5.6 degrees above normal.  This was tied for the fourth warmest June on record.  The warmest was 1952 with an average of 81.7 degrees.  The average high temperature was 96.5 degrees and the average low was 63.2.  Dodge City tied the all-time high with a reading of 110 degrees on the 26th.  There were a total of 10 days with at least 100 degrees.  The total for May and June was 12.  There were four record high temperatures set in June and two others tied.  The lowest temperature for June was 51 on the 11th.

The average wind speed for June was 15.7 mph.  The highest wind gust was 60 mph from the northeast on the 16th.
