Brenda and David Van Meter Receive Award from National Weather Service

Brenda and David Van Meter, cooperative weather observers of rural Pawnee County near Sanford, were presented with a 25 year length of service award on Thursday, July 28th, by Larry Ruthi, Meteorologist in Charge for the National Weather Service in Dodge City. Brenda is the primary observer for the Sanford station and has recorded precipitation data since 2005. Before that Brenda was a river observer and provided river stage information for the Pawnee River near Sanford. The station was started in 1954 by Arden Schartz. Shelton Darnell took over in 1955 and Brenda in 1986.
