December 2011 Weather Summary for Dodge City

December 2011 was well above normal for precipitation at the Dodge City Regional Airport.  In fact, this was the 6th wettest December on record with a total of 2.13 inches.  This was 1.29 inches above normal.  The highest 24 hour total was 1.38 inches on the 19th and 20th.  For the year, Dodge City ended with 10.30 inches of precipitation which was 11.30 inches below normal.  This was the 4th driest year on record.  The driest year was 1956 with 9.97 inches.  The total snowfall for the month was 5.8 inches and all of that occurred on the 19th and 20th.  This was 1.7 inches above normal.  The total snowfall for the season was 6.5 inches and that was 0.2 inches above normal. 

The average temperature for December 2011 was 31.5 degrees which was 1.3 degrees below normal.  The highest temperature was 61 degrees on the 18th and the lowest was 6 degrees on the 23rd.  The average high was 40.4 degrees and the average low was 22.6.  No records were set during the month.

The average wind speed for the month was 12.7 mph.  The highest wind gust was 63 mph from the northwest on the 31st.
