Swede Holmgren Receives 10 Year Length of Service Award

Swede Holmgren, cooperative weather observer at Ellis, was presented with a 10 year length of service award on Wednesday, August 22nd, by Rick Sloan, Service Hydrologist for the National Weather Service in Dodge City.  Mr. Holmgren is the primary observer for the Ellis station and has recorded precipitation data since 2002.  The station was started in 1884 by A. Moggart.  Since then the station has had several observers.  LeRoy Keller was the longest serving observer from 1976 until 1996.  Mr. Holmgren took the station over from Allen Moore in 2002.  In addition to collecting precipitation information, Mr. Holmgren also took river stage readings on Big Creek at Ellis until 2006.
