Dodge City March Weather Summary

Winter finally returned to southwest Kansas on March 20th.  The Dodge City Regional Airport received 6.4 inches of snow that day, which was more than what fell (5.5 inches) when the snow season began.  The total snowfall for the month ended with 7.9 inches, which brought the seasonal total to 13.4 inches.  That is still 7.2 inches below normal.  Total precipitation for the month was 1.01 inches, which was 0.83 inches below normal.  Since January 1st, the total precipitation through the end of March was 1.12 inches, which is 2 inches below normal.  Dodge City had gone from January 21st to March 2nd without any measurable precipitation. 

The average temperature for March was 46.5 degrees, which was 2.2 degrees above normal.  The average high was 59.4 and the average low was 33.6.  The highest temperature was 77 degrees and occurred on the 6th, 7th and 29th.  The lowest was  16 and occurred on the 24th. 

The average wind speed for the month was 15.1 mph.  The peak wind gust was 58 mph from the southwest and occurred on the 12th.  The daily average percent for sunshine was 60.
