Bill and Barbara Schreiber Honored by National Weather Service

Bill and Barbara Schreiber, cooperative weather observers at Ransom, KS were presented with a 25 year length of service award on Wednesday, May 15th, by Larry Ruthi, Meteorologist-in-Charge for the National Weather Service in Dodge City.  In attendance for the presentation was Jesse Lee, Observing Program Leader from Dodge City.  Bill is the primary observer and Barbara is the backup for the Ransom station.  They have recorded precipitation data since 1988.  The station was started in 1946 by Ira Shellenberger.  Fred Yost, Barbara’s Uncle, took over in 1958.  After Fred passed away in 1975, Barbara’s father Ulrich became the primary observer in January 1976.  Mr. Schreiber took over the observing duties in 1988.  The Yost family has been taking observations for the last 55 years.
